Opening Day Festivities at Kempton of Charleston

May 10, 2022

March 2022 in Charleston, SC was a time of celebration—the Wine + Food Festival returned with its top chefs, winemakers, artisans and more; Benjamin Baker of the Charleston Symphony mesmerized audiences with his performance of Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77, and on March 11, Kempton of Charleston was officially declared open by Mayor John Tecklenburg, Liberty Senior Living leadership and MUSC officials. Keep reading for highlights from opening day at the only standalone assisted living community on the Charleston Peninsula.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kempton of Charleston; the Peninsula’s first assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care facility took place at their highly desirable 194 Spring Street location. Located in Charleston’s historic Westside neighborhood, the area is also home to Brittlebank Park, where visitors take in views of the Ashley River and tranquil marshlands, accented by wildflowers and plants native to the area. The Citadel, also known as the Military College of South Carolina, and the Joseph P. Riley Baseball Stadium are also headquartered in Westside. Empire Properties describes the real estate in the community as “an eclectic mix of architecture ranging from Craftsman style bungalows to Victorian houses.”

Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees entered the property under a cheerful arch of blue, gold, silver, and white balloons. The festivities included hors d’oeuvres, a toast to honor the day and a one-of-a-kind Kempton dessert bar with layered parfaits and tiered cakes topped with meringues in Kempton blue. Live music on the keyboard filled the room, and Mayor John Tecklenburg took to the keys to the delight of guests. Along with tours of the property, everyone received a packet of information showcasing the Kempton of Charleston lifestyle.
